Etica Sgr has joined a specific awareness-raising campaign promoted by ICCR (Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility) on the issues of human trafficking and forced labour.
The initiative, launched on 10 December 2013 to coincide with the World Human Rights Day, aims to encourage companies, particularly those operating in the agri-food and hospitality sectors, to implement policies and management systems aimed at preventing abuses of human rights, with particular emphasis on the supply chain.
ICCR has prepared a statement, supported by 500 signatories, which describes the issue of human trafficking and its severity (the phenomenon affected approximately 21 million people on a worldwide basis in 2012 – ILO data). The main international references in this field, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights of 2011 are also cited. Lastly, the main tools available to companies to combat the phenomenon are described, such as the selection and monitoring of suppliers, use of performance indicators with related reporting and collaboration with NGOs operating in the field of respect for human rights.
Etica Sgr, with the awareness that companies can play an essential role in the promotion and respect for human rights, assesses company focus on the issue and, through shareholder engagement, establishes dialogues so that they can improve their conduct.
